Frequently Asked Questions

What is a photo walk?Emily Dress

A photo walk is a two hour stroll with a camera and a bunch of other people. A social gathering follows the walk, so everyone can share photos, talk about the experience, and refuel and rehydrate.

Who can go on the photo walk?

Anyone who thinks it sounds like fun! The walk is suitable for a wide range of ages and physical abilities. The number of participants will be limited.

What if I don't have a camera?

Do you have a more kids than cameras or do you have a limited income? You can still be part of the Lee's Summit Photo Walk!  We have amazing supporters who make sure single-use cameras are available for those who do not own a camera. Please, let us know you need a camera when you register.

Do I have to be a professional photographer?

One goal of the photo walk is to show people that photography can be a fun and can be hobby throughout life. Of course, professional photographers are welcome, too.

How long is the photo walk?

Two hours. The planned route  is approximately 2 1/2 miles long.  Anyone who cannot complete the route in two hours -- or tires before then --  should take a shortcut to the finish check in.

The route is adaptable to each walker's abilities. If you're wondering whether it's stroller-friendly, see the proof here.

How much does it cost?

The walk is free. We want this to be an social activity that anyone can afford. The only expenses are batteries, film or digital media for your camera, gas to drive to and from downtown Lee's Summit. Anything else is up to you.

Why are you doing this?

The Lee's Summit Photo Walk was inspired by Scott Kelby's Worldwide Photo Walk.

"I started the Photo Walk to give the community an activity that is as close to free as I can make it," says Deb Sturgess of Influential Expression, sponsor of the Lee's Summit Photo Walk. "I love seeing people of all ages sharing a great time," In the first walk in 2010, the youngest photographer was 3 years old.

The walk does not make a profit or raise money for any charitable or commercial entity. All donations go directly to support the Lee's Summit Photo Walk. We make sure nothing is wasted and everything is put to good use. Each year, we start again from scratch.
